In Memoriam: Robert J. Banuelo
Washington, DC—Congressmen Lou Correa released the following statement following the passing of his staff member Robert J. Banuelos:
“I am deeply saddened by Robert’s passing. Bob joined my staff at the beginning after working for former Rep. Loretta Sanchez. He devoted his life to making Orange County better. In 1992, Bob nearly became a Member of Congress and changed Orange County’s politics forever. He will be missed, but his contributions will not be forgotten.”
Mr. Robert “Bob” J. Banuelos grew up on a family farm in Fountain Valley and was a lifelong Orange County resident. He famously challenged longterm incumbent Rep. Robert K. Dornan in 1992, becoming the first competitive American Indian candidate in Orange County. Bob spent nearly 30 years working for the people of North Orange County as a community leader, and staff for Representatives Sanchez and Correa.
